New cargo securing technical inspections

May 20, 2018: in force new technical roadside inspections on cargo securing!

From May 20, 2018, Directive 2014/47/EU on the technical roadside inspection of the roadworthiness of commercial vehicles circulating in the Union entered into force, which introduced specific roadside checks on cargo securing.

The inspections, based on the EN 12195-1 standard, concern the securing systems used, such as verifying the number and type of web lashings, rather than the requirements for vehicle structure and lashing points of cargo transport units when those components are used for the cargo securing.

Inspectors have the checklist available for inspections contained in Annex III of Directive 2014/47/EU, which can be downloaded here:

The purpose of the inspections is to detect any deficiencies in cargo securing that could cause damage to people, property and the environment. Loads can only minimally change their position relative to each other, against walls or surfaces of the vehicle, and cannot leave the cargo space or move outside the loading surface, even in the event of emergency maneuvers, such as sudden braking or the track gauge of an obstacle.

It is therefore necessary to adapt to the new provisions, in order not to incur penalties and to guarantee the transport safety.
